The Adventures Continue
I still haven’t had the chance to play No Thank You, Evil! but I saw kids running games while at GenCon, which was incredibly cool. We interviewed Shanna Germain about No Thank You, Evil! last year, and if you have kids that you want to bring into RPGs, I think this game is ideal. Now MCG is kickstarting expansions for the core game, including story ideas and more monsters.

“This Kickstarter offers two new expansions to No Thank You, Evil!

STORY, PLEASE! An Adventure-Building Deck For No Thank You, Evil! Story, Please! is a 100-card deck stuffed full of evocative art and creative ideas, letting you quickly build hundreds of unique adventures for No Thank You, Evil! It’s easy: just combine an engaging STORY card with one or more cool PLACE and PERSON cards to outline your quest. Then give your adventure a surprising TWIST, and some cool STUFF. Map and handout cards complete the adventure. The deck is the same size as the cards in the original game, allowing you to use it with the Creature and Cypher Cards from that game.

UH-OH, MONSTERS! An Adventure Expansion for No Thank You, Evil! Uh-Oh, Monsters! is an adventure expansion that includes everything you need to run new adventures for No Thank You, Evil! Claws and Paws: The Monsters You’ll Meet! This creature book is chock-full of monsters, humans, aliens, robots and tons of other walking, talking, fighting, biting creatures you’ll encounter in Storia. Learn more about the Monster Museum, discover quirks, and learn how to make your own monsters. Lairs and Scares: Let’s Go on Wild Adventures! This adventure book offers three brand-new adventures for No Thank You, Evil!, all with fun monster themes. Creature Cards: 30 new creature cards (that match the format of the cards in the original game) for quick-and-easy reference. Creature Standups: 15 creature standups, letting you bring creatures to life right at the table!”

Monsterhearts 2
We played Monsterhearts with The Leviathan Files a while back, and it was a ton of fun. This is the second edition, that works on streamlining the rules, revised the playbooks, and added more chapters on sexuality and boundaries.

“Monsterhearts 2 lets you and your friends create stories about sexy monsters, teenage angst, personal horror, and secret love triangles. You’re all teenagers in a dark and stormy world, hiding the fact that you are secretly a monster. When you play, you explore the terror and confusion of having a body that is changing without your permission. This is a roleplaying game powered by the Apocalypse World engine. It draws inspiration from Twilight, True Blood, Buffy, Ginger Snaps, and The Craft.”

Science Wide Open
I might be biased, but I think getting kids introduced to science is extremely important. And representation of yourself when learning is also really important. This series of books for kids introduces them to Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, while focusing on the accomplishments of women in these fields.

“Kids ask a LOT of questions. The inquisitive star of Science Wide Open is no different! Her questions about how the world works guide each unique story, while the resulting narrative teaches some of the fundamentals of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Science Wide Open is a children’s book series. This is a series that… First, explains and teaches some basic concepts in chemistry, biology and physics in simple and memorable terms by using the natural questions and curiosity of a young child. Second, does so by highlighting some of the mind blowing scientific advancements made by women scientists throughout history.”

Pies are Awesome
I love baking. Most of the cutouts to decorate your pies are traditional, like leaves and hearts, and I’m not artistic enough to do much past that. But now I’ll have the power to make a pie Cthulhu whenever I want! The other guides are Pi, Unicorn, Cats, Mustache Man, and a dragon. What’s really cool with these guides is that they aren’t just one shape. They’re the pieces you need to build a scene, and the character on your pie never needs to look the same. There’s also two powder guides, that let you bake designs into your crust.

“To correct the horrible imbalance of “regular” vs. “geeky” pies out there in the universe, I invented a simple modular system of Pie Guides that allow anyone – from baking novice to pie god – to create sophisticated and fun pie crust designs in under 10 minutes (because really, why should cakes have all the fun?)

If you, like me, believe it is time for pies to take their rightful place as the kings and queens of geeky desserts we all know they can be, click on that big ‘ol green “Back This Project” button and ‘dough your part’ in becoming a true Pie-oneer!”

Cthulhu Crusades
I think my favorite image on the cards for this game is the Trojan Cthulhu. The artwork is clever, and definitely fits in the Crusade theme. This game uses Tarot sized cards as you attempt to storm a castle and claim the Necronomicon. Of course, it’s not an easy task.

“Cthulhu Crusades is a fast paced card game, as much about chance as strategy, set in the dark Middle Ages under the sway of the Necronomicon. Your objective is to storm the enemy castle and take the Necronomicon there. To achieve this, you will have to create an army, build siege weapons, protect your walls, offer sacrifices to sea creatures, and make use of the cultists to call up terrible monsters.”

An Illustrated Guide to Welsh Monsters and Mythical Beasts
Mythology is a great place to draw inspiration for your game. This guide collects the Welsh monsters and mythology into a beautifully illustrated tome.

“Wales is my home country and holds a special place in my heart; I grew up surrounded by dramatic landscapes, legends of King Arthur, dragons and folk tales telling of mysterious creatures that inhabit the land. A couple of years ago myself and my partner visited Iceland, the people there are so proud of their mythology. Sadly here in Wales many of our legends and mythical creatures have been forgotten over time. So over the last two years it became my mission to bring them back to the fore-front of Welsh culture and introduce them to a new generation. ”

Still active!

Hudson and Brand
Darwin’s Origin of Species Picture Book
Upwind RPG
Ghost Court
Giant Squishable Foam Dice
The Book of Three Gates
Loot: A Magic Item Deck
Q’Thulu
Bluebeard’s Bride
King in Yellow Christmas Cards
Clades: The Evolutionary Card Game
Ako Polyhedral Dice

There’s many interesting items to be found on Kickstarter, but these are the coolest ones this week.
