What’s Cool on Kickstarter

There’s many interesting items to be found on Kickstarter, but these are the coolest ones this week.

Satanic Panic
I love the concept for this game. Satanic Panic posits that the people in the ’80s were right. Tabletop games are evil and a way for your soul to become possessed by all types of evil. You play as people trying to end the grip the terrible hobby has on the country. Besides the really great meta jokes there are to be had with this game, secret government agencies tasked to take down evil is a genre I definitely love. I can’t wait to play this!

“Satanic Panic is a tabletop roleplaying game set in the fictional 1970’s and 1980’s where players take on the role of secret government agents tasked with combating the evils of tabletop. The players work as a team with the common purpose to contain, control, and eliminate the threats to our world. They must do all this while keeping the truth from the public, lest a panic ensue.

The game will be a 200-page hardcover book with everything needed for a GM and 2-6 players. It is designed so that the game can be played as a traditional RPG campaign or can be played in an episodic fashion with different numbers and arrangements of players. Satanic Panic brings modern game design principles to traditional tabletop game play. It gives the players all the power they need to fight against the forces of evil while making their every decision have long term consequences.

Join us in the fight against evil, join us in the fight against tabletop.”

Elder Dice
If you need some mythos themed dice at your table, now’s your chance to get some really cool ones. There are three sets, with Cthulhu, the Yellow Sign, and the Elder Sign. They come in a special box, which is being upgraded as stretch goals are met. The sets come with your standard polyhedral set plus an additional 2d6. You can also get sets with even more d6. If you know someone who likes Mythos RPGs this is a great gift!

“Elder Dice add the perfect magical touch to any fantasy or horror roleplaying game. They are also perfect for enhancing the dice in any boardgame. We have designed three different dice sets, each packaged in a matching spellbook box with a magnetic closure. We also have sets of six-sided dice in each design for everyone who needs to roll d6s by the fistful.”

Mapforge Battlemap Creation Software
I’m not that great at making maps, the only time my players get a battlemap is when one exists for me with an adventure already. Mapforge promises that it will help people like me make great maps for battles and dungeon crawls. The examples they show look really nice and definitely not something I could easily make on my own. At $27 it’s a really affordable option if you want to impress your players.

“Have you always wanted to make your own slick-looking full-color battlemaps, but just don’t have the time or patience to learn to use a sophisticated image editing application like Photoshop or Gimp? Or perhaps you tried anyway but in the end you ran away screaming in frustration because you found it too difficult and/or time-consuming? Have you tried existing mapping software and been frustrated with the learning curve, the cost, the interface, and/or been disappointed by the results?

If the answer to any or all of those questions is “yes”, then my brand new MapForge application is probably just what you’ve been searching for (and possibly waiting for for years).”

Bedlam Hall
This game is powered by Apocalypse, and I’ve really liked the games I’ve played using that system. I really like the idea behind this, and Apocalypse Engine seems like a great choice. You play as the servants from what seems to be an even more exaggerated version of the Addam’s family. Also I’ve never heard the term dreadpunk before and I love it. The art reminds me of Edward Gorey, which is pretty fitting for the setting.

“Bedlam Hall is a macabre role-playing game set in the Victorian age, where the players become the hapless servant staff of the Blackwood Family, tasked with maintaining a semblance of order within the House while vying for prestige and privilege among their fellow staff members. Each character strives to learn each other’s Secrets while protecting their own, as the Blackwoods’ unique peculiarities complicate the players’ goals and daily routine. Solving the dark and horrible mysteries is less important, when compared to just surviving them for another day without losing one’s sanity or position.”

Hollow Dice
There’s a lot of dice out there, and there’s plenty of metal ones. But these ones are different from what I’ve seen before. The hollow dice is really cool, though I’d be so afraid to step on one and squish it.

“It’s lighter, innovative, yet beautiful and functional. Starting from the CUBBLE Dice concept, stripped it from everything that made it metal heavy. Only the essential part was kept: the PIP display- the new HOLLOW dice is built on a groundbreaking idea, and it’s ready to be yours.
