What’s Cool on Kickstarter

There’s many interesting items to be found on Kickstarter, but these are the coolest ones this week.

The Game Anywhere Table
This is one of the most affordable gaming tables I’ve seen, and even better, it can fold up to go with you anywhere, or for storage when you’re not using it. The basic table is only $259, and then there are a ton of cool add-ons, like cup holders, card holders, ways to divide up player areas and more. If you don’t have the space for a full blown gaming room, this table can make it possible for you to have a great tabletop experience whenever you have friends over.

“Tabletop board games, card games and RPGs have made a huge comeback in popularity, and all of us here at Transforming Designs love them just as much as you do.

The recurring problem is finding where to play and what to play on. So we decided to get our group of engineers together to solve this problem. After months of designing and testing we created the Game Anywhere Table. The Game Anywhere Table was designed with more than just the game in mind, we had the player in mind as well. So, we are proud to introduce our innovative patent pending design with four playing stations featuring magnetic player panels.”

Shadows of Esteren: Dearg
Shadows of Esteren is one of the best Horror Fantasy games out there, and I can’t wait to get the chance to play it. Helping with that goal is this new kickstarter for a campaign book for the game called Dearg. This campaign will introduce some new forms of narrative play, including scenarios where only one person will play their usual character, and everyone else plays the people important to them. I think delves like this can really enrich the gaming experience, and am interested to see it happen in a campaign setting.

“Welcome to the page dedicated to Dearg, the campaign book for the role-playing game Shadows of Esteren: a story of love, despair, beauty and death. The main purpose of this Kickstarter is to finance the release of the campaign book in English in a deluxe edition. If you are a newcomer to Esteren, you will find Pledges specifically designed for you, so that you can get started.

Dearg is a major Shadows of Esteren release. It covers a campaign spanning 500 pages, which will be released in two volumes, through two separate Kickstarters. The current Kickstarter will finance the translation and printing of the first volume, as well as a limited edition with many exclusive game aids. Currently, the campaign has been fully written, and about half of it (which corresponds to the first volume) has been illustrated and translated.

Dearg is the result of nearly ten years of work. It depicts the full extent of the themes related to Shadows of Esteren. Through 21 scenarios, it takes the Player Characters closer and closer to dark secrets, and puts them face to face with their inner demons. Its main objective is to put the PCs at the heart of the narrative and to turn their personal stories into critical components of the dramatic tension. To that end, Dearg introduces several new game mechanics, including two new types of scenarios: Focuses and Modular scenarios.”

Exspelled: A Magical Papercraft Game
In this game you can fold your own wand. I really love the idea of being able to create your wand for your character, especially when you illustrate your character as part of creating them. Plus the fact that this game takes place at a shitty version of all the good magic schools. I’m not sure how much replay you can get out of this game, but you will get PDFs so you can run it as many times as you want.

“You’re all incoming freshmen at Whimberly’s College of the Magical Arts – a magic school located in the center of a mana desert. It’s pretty terrible…but you don’t have much of a choice. You didn’t get accepted to any of the more prestigious magic schools – the quill didn’t write down your name, you weren’t endowed with amazing mutations, you’re not exactly what the magic elite want. But that doesn’t mean you can’t attend magic school. Magic is for everyone…right?

What is it? It’s a book that transforms into a creative tabletop game for 2-6 players. As you progress through the book, you will create your characters, color them, and customize them. Your characters will face many dangers, brave challenges, and make many decisions that permanently affect the story. You’ll use a decision card to track the choices you make as the story moves forward.”

Densters! Den Building Toy Monsters
Building a blanket fort is always trickier then it seems to be when you start out. I usually tried to hold corners in place by stacking enough heavy books on them, which could be disastrous if the blanket was pulled at the wrong time. This adorable monsters make it a lot easier to hold your blanket fort in place, and they take a variety of shapes for different purposes. Plus the clips for hanging up lights is a great idea. If I had these, there would be a blanket fort 100% of the time in my home. And that sounds very comforting right now.

“Meet the Densters, a set of playful and functional toy monsters, which connect together and allow kids to build the most amazing dens and forts at home! There are six unique characters in the Densters family. Each of them is a unique den connector, but they also have a functional purpose in the home: bag hook, cable holder, bookmark, door-stopper, bracelet and phone stand!”

Beautifully Nerdy Deep Space Paintings and Prints
These paintings are so detailed and breathtaking. If you love images from space, these prints deserve a place in your home. You can chose the type of print you want, or even get leggings. If you have an empty spot on your wall you want to fill, check out these pretty amazing paintings.

“If you’re reading this; you, I, and thousands of others have something in common – we think deep space is totally bad-ass and mind-blowingly beautiful. But there’s a huge problem. I could buy paintings on practically every subject, but to find anything that featured deep space was near impossible. It’s unbelievable that there are so few artworks of possibly the most beautiful things in the universe. Something had to be done. We’ve worked incredibly hard to meticulously compile these into hand-signed prints of some delightfully detailed paintings.”
